The Howitzer & Buzz-Saw Show – Poking A Bear

Mike “the Buzz-Saw” Asti and George ‘the Howitzer” Gerbo soak up all the pot stirring and entertain the masses, like only they can.

All the news, notes, and asininity of another week in the NFL, the ongoing action in both the American and National League Championship Series, and a bizarre record already set in the young NHL season. Can the Dodgers find their stroke in time to save their season? Is there any weakness on the machine that has been the Boston Red Sox? Does Torii Hunter have a legit complaint with a bullpen security guard? Don’t you just love a good pitchers duel?

George even takes home a rare victory in the opening banter session. The Howitzer and Buzz-Saw Show. Conquering sports radio, one day, at a time…

The Howitzer & Buzz-Saw Show – A Clouded Legacy

Even during a relatively slow sports week, Mike “the Buzz-Saw” Asti and George ‘the Howitzer” Gerbo got your back. Your favorite sports genius’ spit sports talk fire, no matter what.

In this edition of the HBS, Bud Selig has officially announced his tenure as commissioner over Major League Baseball will conclude following the 2014 season. How will Selig’s legacy be viewed years from now? Will the clouds of the steroid era and All-Star Game debacle taint any of his success’? Selig ushered in transcendent advancements of interleague play and the Wild Card, but also enabled an era, that is perceived as a black eye for America’s past time. Does how Selig wants to be remembered match how he will be?

Almost all of the 2013 MLB playoff teams are set. Almost is the key. Texas and Cleveland remain in a dog fight for a final AL spot. Can the Indians resurgence land the Tribe in the post-season? Will the Rangers be able to crawl in? If Texas fails, how much blame does the suspended Nelson Cruz get, for deciding to appeal and not play in their pennant race?

Hey Rachel Nichols, pack your bags and head to Mississippi! At least that’s what Buzz Cook, Brett Favre’s agent, says she should do. Cook recently proclaimed his client could still play in the NFL, even at 43 years old. What do our guys make of these comments? Mike believes, while Cook might be right, Favre’s NFL career is over.

From one legend staying retired, to another officially returning to his sport. Tim Thomas has been named the Florida Panthers starting goaltender. He has the clout, but can Thomas still perform? Was this a smart signing for the forever rebuilding Panthers?

This radio gold broadcast caps off with week 4 of the HBS NFL Pick’em Challenge.

The Howitzer & Buzz-Saw Show – Necessary Defiance

Some things will just never change. That’s kind of the mentality of the week in the sports world. One thing that’s eternal is that of the Cleveland sports curse. The cursed city’s last champion (1964) franchise rears its ugly head. Asinine doesn’t even do it justice, as the Cleveland Browns trade Trent Richardson to Indianapolis. While the Colts add another young stud, to keep the present and future bright, the Browns ship off their best asset for a first round pick.

Mike “the Buzz-Saw” Asti and George “the Howitzer” Gerbo tee off on the NFL’s laughing stock cursed franchise. Mike, our resident heel and Cleveland curse appreciator, soaks up the joy of a truly head scratching move. But Mike also tries to rationalize the move.

Another recent American tragedy, the shootings at the Navy base in DC, shook the foundation of the country again. Sports can serve as a diversion and galvanizing effect, when they’re ALLOWED to be. The Washington Nationals were presented Navy hats to tribute to their fallen fellow DC citizens. They were not permitted to wear them during a game. Should the Nats have fought more for the cause? ¬†What’s MLB’s problem with such caps? Our guys provide perspective, stemming from a Keith Olbermann rant.

AL-A-BAM-A, Johnny Manziel, and all that is college football, as well as, another week in the HBS NFL Pick ‘Em Challenge conclude another gold quality show.

You can try to pin them down. You won’t succeed. It’s the Howitzer and Buzz-Saw Show! Defiant to the end, and conquering sports radio, one day, at a time…

The Howitzer & Buzz-Saw Show – Praise Be To The Sports God

While commemorating and paying respects to a day that will forever live in the hearts of Americans, Mike “the Buzz-Saw” and George “the Howitzer” Gerbo tear up another broadcast.

This edition, your favorite sports genius’ discuss a season ending injury for Derek Jeter? How does this effect the Yankees chances at crawling into a postseason birth? Will we ever hear these famous words again: “at short-stop, number 2, Derek Jeter, number 2” (Bob Sheppard voice)? Mike explains why, even though losing Jeter won’t hurt the Yankees in 2013, he will definitely be back in 2014. An epic retrospective to the end of the Pittsburgh Pirates 20 year “streak” and their hopes down the stretch keep the baseball diamond the headline act.

With the fall season looming, football is here and making its presence felt already. What was up with the asinine ugliness of Week 1 in the NFL? Can the Eagles offense keep up their college track meet style all season long? If they do, how good is Philadelphia? On the flip side, after a bad home opening loss, how bad are the usually contending Steelers? Expect some other hot button NFL topics, as well as, the HBS NFL Pick ’em Challenge.

Before bowing up a gold quality program, college football continues to spark much intrigue. Johnny Manziel and his polarizing “heel” self square off against AL-A-BAMA, in a pivotal show down. Who will come out on top?

Remember those lost on that faithful day of September 11, 2001. As our service men and women, our police force, and our firefighters, continue to conquer for us, the Howitzer and Buzz-saw bring a release of entertainment, by conquering sports radio, one day, at a time…

The Howitzer & Buzz-Saw Show – Foot In Mouth Disease

Dropping bombs and taking names. Well N-bombs and taking names of people offended by you, that is. At least that’s the life of Riley Cooper these days. The Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver got himself in a heap of trouble, after video of him shouting a racial slur at a Kenny Chesney concert recently. Mike Vick wants to him to be given a second chance. Did Vick, someone who has been awarded many second chances (cough, dog fighting, cough), have to say this, or is he really as forgiving as his words dictate? What are Cooper’s other teammates feelings towards him now? Do we need to hear from Chip Kelly about this? It’s political incorrectness, and you know Mike “the Buzz-Saw” Asti and George “the Howitzer” Gerbo enjoy all that is not PC.

From one buffoon to some others. Major League Baseball is negotiating with Alex Rodriguez on his up-coming PED punishment. BUT Bud Selig isn’t happy with just any punishment. Baseball’s commissioner has an axe to grind and is calling for a lifetime banishment for A-Rod. Mike explains how overreaching like this may actually hurt the game more. With no precedent for banning someone for life based for performance enhancing drug use and involvement in such scandals, is it even possible an eternal ban would stick upon appeal?

Separate from the forever cloud looming over America’s past time, the trade deadline has come and gone. Or should I say was never there in the first place? Few big names changed squads. Why was this? Should some sellers have been more active? Do any of the contenders, namely Pittsburgh, deserve any criticism for a lack of moves?

We conclude another gold quality broadcast with a special buzz-sawing session about why college football pre-season rankings DO matter and why the idiots who think they’re irrelevant make the world go ’round. The Howitzer and Buzz-Saw Show conquers sports radio, one day, at a time…
