I make no bones about the fact that football season is my favorite time of year. It gives a special sense of optimism that ultimately turns into despair that only the truest of Browns fans can endure yet enjoy. It also brings about a lot of enthusiastic fantasy players creating the ultimate team. For many, it’s not just football season. No sir, this is Shiva Season. (Thank you FX for creating The League!)

Welcome back to my feature about my hypothetical run as General Manager of my beloved Cleveland Browns. The first installment included me talking about making sure the front office created a clear-cut gameplan for the organization as well as making a couple brief points on some of the roster decisions for the upcoming season. This time around, I’m going to go more in-depth about free agency and the draft. Continue reading

Geeks of Gridiron: Week 6 – Mischievious Continues To Flourish

GoG-6
The rookie Johnathan “Mischievious” McCumber, who went 9-5 last week, continues to put a minor stranglehold on the Minister of the Tricycle trophy. He has a two game lead over Kelen “B Hyphen” Conley. Conley put up the worst record last week, going 7-7. Thomas “Nocturne” Deja has quietly lingered in middle position all season as he hasn’t had a week where he picked less then 9 games correctly as he went 9-5 last week. Anthony “Triple S” Sellers is 6 games back (45-32 overall). However, he and Mike “the Buzz-Saw” Asti (44-33 overall) both took a step in the right direction by each going 10-4 last week. Can they continue their comeback to prominence or will the rookie continue to chain down the Gridiron Geek veterans? Continue reading

The Howitzer & Buzz-Saw Show – A Clouded Legacy

Even during a relatively slow sports week, Mike “the Buzz-Saw” Asti and George ‘the Howitzer” Gerbo got your back. Your favorite sports genius’ spit sports talk fire, no matter what.

In this edition of the HBS, Bud Selig has officially announced his tenure as commissioner over Major League Baseball will conclude following the 2014 season. How will Selig’s legacy be viewed years from now? Will the clouds of the steroid era and All-Star Game debacle taint any of his success’? Selig ushered in transcendent advancements of interleague play and the Wild Card, but also enabled an era, that is perceived as a black eye for America’s past time. Does how Selig wants to be remembered match how he will be?

Almost all of the 2013 MLB playoff teams are set. Almost is the key. Texas and Cleveland remain in a dog fight for a final AL spot. Can the Indians resurgence land the Tribe in the post-season? Will the Rangers be able to crawl in? If Texas fails, how much blame does the suspended Nelson Cruz get, for deciding to appeal and not play in their pennant race?

Hey Rachel Nichols, pack your bags and head to Mississippi! At least that’s what Buzz Cook, Brett Favre’s agent, says she should do. Cook recently proclaimed his client could still play in the NFL, even at 43 years old. What do our guys make of these comments? Mike believes, while Cook might be right, Favre’s NFL career is over.

From one legend staying retired, to another officially returning to his sport. Tim Thomas has been named the Florida Panthers starting goaltender. He has the clout, but can Thomas still perform? Was this a smart signing for the forever rebuilding Panthers?

This radio gold broadcast caps off with week 4 of the HBS NFL Pick’em Challenge.
